Pharah's comic

Personality:

"I will protect the innocent."

As the daughter of one of the founding members of Overwatch - a worldwide peacekeeping organization - Fareeha was surrounded by extraordinary individuals with a singular goal to make the world a better place, and that upbringing helped solidify the person she is today. In the years that Overwatch operated after the initial Omnic Crisis (when sentient robots took over their factories and waged war on humankind), she witnessed her mother and her mother's colleagues saving the day time and time again, and bringing about world peace among Omnics and humans. It gave her a deep sense of altruism, the desire to protect the innocent, and to make the world a better place. She dreamed of following in her mother's footsteps and joining Overwatch.

She is motivated and determined, and with that goal in mind she joined the Egyptian Army and excelled due to her strategic intelligence and fighting prowess. It didn't hurt that she had her own sense of excitement at work here; while her mother hated the idea of 'walking into the unknown', it was Fareeha's favorite part of a mission.

Although it looked as though Pharah were well poised to be invited to join Overwatch, two factors prevented her from being able to do so; one was that her mother didn't want her to join, to see that side of war and conflict, and as well Overwatch eventually collapsed from within and disbanded. People she'd grown up with started dying or disappearing, including her mother. This left her extremely bitter and jaded (especially pertaining to her mother), having to redefine her life's goals.

She proves herself adaptable, and when she was honorably discharged from the Egyptian Army she accepted a position within Helix Security International, which would allow her to continue fighting and taking down Omnics that threatened humanity.

It's through Helix that she truly learns what her mother knew; that team is family; they are the mission, and if you take care of them, they'll take care of you. When her Captain died, she motivated the team to continue by making it personal, and offering to buy them dinner if they succeeded. Then, when she was posed with the one decision she dreaded most - taking out the objective or saving a teammate - she opted to save a teammate. He, in turn, helped take down the Anubis God Program they were fighting while she offered herself as a distraction. To note, after her mother disappeared in a mission and was thought dead, Fareeha got a tattoo of the Eye of Horus - known as an udjat - which her mother had told her is a symbol of protection. Her original intention had been to get it as protection as she continued her endeavors, but after this particular mission with Helix and taking out Anubis, she realized she was wrong; it meant she was the protector over others.

Fareeha is a very organized and individual; she keeps her armor and weapons systems well maintained and in as near perfect as one can get. She holds herself with a military precision, encouraged from her time with the Egyptian Army. However, she can be playful when the situation calls for it, such as having a poster glorifying one of her idols, to reminiscing about it with him years later. When she isn't being reminded about the dark times in life, she has a bit of mischief to her. She doesn't hold grudges. For as bitter as she was, as long as she was, about her mother disappearing, when Ana Amari returns, Fareeha is able to put aside her anger and admit she missed her mother and is glad she's back.
Fareeha is proud about her service and kept a stellar record; receiving a commendation for distinguished service. But she likes to keep busy; to have purpose, and help people. She went right from military service to private security group. "We're a 'kill everything' team." People disappearing from her life made her more determined to do good in their stead. If anything, the events seemed to solidify and validate the person she was; that she needed to be out in the world helping to make it a better place. For some of the awful things that have happened in this world, and some of the terrible things people - her close friends included - have gone through, she's amazingly level-headed. She's got a strong sense of self and purpose.

"Mom always said she dreaded this part -- walking into the unknown, but it's what I always love most." Pharah's mother was one of the founding members of Overwatch, and one of the most skilled snipers in the world. She fought with the hopes her daughter wouldn't have to, but at the same time she taught Fareeha how to defend herself. and didn't talk about how the lives that she took weighed on her soul. Fareeha saw the glory of Overwatch and idolized the extraordinary people around her (when she was young she had a poster of Reinhardt) and it molded her into the fighter she is today. It also created tension between her and her mother.

Canon Powers: Normal Human

Game powers: Pharah will not be arriving with her armor. Instead, she will have two mid-level powers. These powers must be intentionally activated with a callsign, and cannot be used simultaneously. They can each last for a maximum duration of one hour with a two hour cooldown (so they cannot be continuously activated). They can be activated while the other is in cooldown;

Eye of Horus: Grants her enhanced physique: high, with a focus on increased reflexes and power of attacks. Visually, her Udjat tattoo will glow gold and she will radiate an aura of blue fire.

Feather of Ma'at: Grants her ability to see others' true intentions, with a focus on guilt and intent to harm. Visually she will radiate white fire.

Abilities: Fareeha is trained in MMA fighting, standard army issue weaponry, strategy, and practices, and familiar with Mark VI Raptora Armor Systems, specializing with the rocket launcher.

Setting: Pharah will be a perfect fit for Legion. She is righteous, has a sense of intense altruism and desire to protect the innocent and downtrodden. One might say she is almost eager to delve into the unknown. She is a stalwart military type and I would like to see her open up and learn to work with a team of people she wouldn't normally work with.

SAMPLES

Prose Sample:

Your character is with the team at a fancy diplomatic party and a UP dignitary (Coluan, naturally, because man, that whole planet seems to be chock fill of arrogant dicks) has called into question the character's ability to be a Legionnaire and whether or not they, some weirdo inter-dimensional stranger, have the personal character to help protect the United Planets. How do they respond?

Pharah pulls in a careful intake of breath, letting Coluan's comment settle and taking her time before answering; a brash reaction would certainly not make the situation better, and would likely only add fire to his claim. She stands up a little straighter, exuding the best professionalism she can muster from her experiences in military dress events. Her hat tucked under her arm, her suit crisp and clean, she gives him a small, careful smile.

"With all do respect, sir, my life has been spent serving others in need. I do not make a distinction between those from my own world, or those from others; if there are any in need of help and protection, I am at their disposal. I come bearing past experiences and training from my own world, but I can guarantee you; whether or not you believe in my ability from my personal history, you will see it in the successes I will bring to your people."

She gives him a smile, but there's steel in her eyes; she's confident in her abilities, and is convinced that all he has to do is see her in action once and he'll realize she's in no way any lesser than the original Legionaries.

And if that doesn't change his mind? Then it's no skin off her back; so long as she is able to do her job here, she will without complaint.

Network Sample:

Welcome to the Legion, rookie. As a way of helping your character cope with their circumstances and have an optimistic outlook towards the future, the existing Legionnaires want them to record a message to their future self with their thoughts on their current situation, what they hope to accomplish in their time with the Legion, and the first thing they want to do when they get sent safely home or to the dimension of their choice.

Hello, Fareeha. No doubt you've settled in by now and established a routine. I know it's hard, finding yourself away from everything that is familiar - but even in these strange circumstances you have friends, family, and a team that will take care of you. Be sure you take care of them. Don't forget what Khalil said; they're your mission, your family.

Just because they are a little more cobbled together that what you're used to doesn't mean they are without merit. Everyone here was brought in because they have potential. If you are having a hard time, try to find that potential in others, and don't forget you possess it as well.

[She sighs and sits back, assessing herself in the moment. She was always up for a challenge, and didn't balk at the unknown, but she knew even she could have her doubts. She'd have to learn to rely on people like she had learned to rely on Helix. At the very least, this time she had the chance to do so before tragedy struck.]

You're smart, you're determined, and no one can get you down once you've made up your mind. Whatever it is you are grappling with at the moment, you've got this.

Additional info: None, it's all up there!

If this is your first character being apped to the game, did you reserve first? Not my first character. Should be nicer than South Dakota, though XD

SAMPLES
Action Log Sample:

Pharah doesn't know how long she's been awake.

Between arriving here, exploring the immediate vicinity, and getting to know the other inhabitants as well as the basic situation here, she's been through the ringer as far as emotional bombshells go.

She's due back with Helix, she can't afford to be here, how long has she been here already?

Where was here?

By the time she makes it a point to seek out housing for the night, she has reached a point of mental exhaustion she's only otherwise experienced during her tours with the Egyptian Army - when long days and sleepless nights amid high stress situations that required her to be on point for a very long time. The moments these engagements ended, she felt, were the worst part; you had the time and the silence then to really think about what you went through.

Navigating through the narrow spiral staircase in the tower was its own challenge; Pharah's armor was built for more open spaces, more room to maneuver. She could hear the tips of the jets scraping against the wall now and again when she didn't get the angle of the curve just right. She winced every time - she didn't have the tools for proper maintenance here, she had to keep it as pristine as possible; if she were here a day or a year, the last thing she wanted was her Raptora armor systems to fail in any way.

Finally, she makes it to a suitable room. She steps in, takes a look around, then makes a full premise sweep before ensuring it's safe enough to climb out of the armor. She sets her helmet on the table, then piece by piece removes the armor plating until she's down to the black undersuit. Each piece is laid carefully on the table, or - in the case of the jump jets and their considerable size - propped against the wall. In a sticky situation, her armor would be her best friend.

She stretches, trying to unwind from the trials of the day and let her mind settle into a stiller place where sleep might be achievable. So far in her journey she had followed a bright light to a party, experienced the party change, meet people she knew, people she didn't know, actual aliens, and did her best to avoid monsters on the way to find a place to settle.

For the night. she tells herself. She reaches up and rubs her temples; once rested, she would be better poised to find a way out of here and get back to where she needed to be, but she was of no use to anyone right now.

Going to the window, she looks out at the city and the curving stone ceiling above and wonders; would she even find a way out? What if it was as people were saying, and she would find herself trapped here for an indeterminate amount of time? She frowns, thinking of the implications, and trying not to jump to conclusions.

"What a day this has been."

Like any military engagement she's been in, as with any debriefing from Helix Securities International, she finds she can't actually sleep until she runs through the day in complete, agonizing detail; making mental notes about what she did right, what she could have done better, people that she met and where they fell on a level of trust (the highest levels, of course, were nearly unattainable, but she liked to think she had a good judge of character and would be able to establish a network of reliable teammates, should she be here for any sizable length of time). She sits on the edge of the bed as she recalls names and faces, making mental notes, and then stretches out on her back, counts down, and - eventually - falls into an uneasy asleep.

The memorial service was a blur.

Fareeha remembered vignettes - little moments. Her friends, their faces, their words. She vaguely remembered getting up and reading a eulogy but she wouldn't have remembered what she said if it weren't for the notes carefully folded up and tucked away in her pocket.

She stood outside now, overlooking the grounds and lost in thought. She was in military dress, her hair plaited tight against her head and a ceremonial hat tucked under her arm. It was a beautiful day; the heat had broken and a subtle breeze swept past her cheek. She tried to think; about the last time she saw her mother, the last words they'd had, tight and tense. She tried to think back to when she was younger but her mother seemed a different person back then, although it could just be the nostalgia of youth coloring memories.

She couldn't be sure. She was sad, but she was also angry, at the same time bitter and guilty that they hadn't tied up ends, that so much had gone unspoken. It was a lot to carry, but she didn't know how to let any of it go.

Eventually, she's drawn from her thoughts by the sound of gravel shifting behind her as someone approaches. She turns her head slightly, acknowledging that she knew he was there.

"Commander Morrison."

Pharah, reporting in. Given the new challenge we have ahead of us I felt it would be wise to brainstorm and share information. I've taken the initiative of patrolling the effected area. I don't think it's a danger - yet - but it has the potential to be damaging if not contained. Does anyone have theories about what might be happening, or how to stop it?

I'm all ears.
